I understand it has been a little bit since I last posted something, and for that well, I’ve been busy with writing other things…. sermons to be exact! But, that’s for another post…
Ive been thinking about this post over the last few days, especially with all of the Love being spread on the Internet (said no one ever).
It seems we have one person who loves to tweet nasty things late at night, other people, who, tragically, end their lives and everyone and everything in between. What is a person to do? how can we respond? How should we respond?
Now, before we go any further, full disclosure: I rant and rave at the evening news ALL. THE. TIME. I bark when I read the daily newspaper. I tell the people who make the decisions that the decisions they are making stink. (Funny how they never ask for my advice.) I do all of this in the privacy of my own home, and I probably shouldn’t do it their either, but I share this as a reminder that i’m not perfect, but most of you knew that anyway.
The question I am leaning towards is: how do we respond to all the negative people, places and things that are taking place in our world.
I remember reading a long time ago about a new word that we should implement in our lives. (I think it was Max Lucado, but not totally sure)
“Stuck-itis”.
The meaning of Stuck-itis is to love the people you are stuck on earth with.
Jesus reminded us of the following: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35 NIB84)
The new command that Jesus gave was actually a very old command. The Children of God were meant to love God and to love their neighbour, or the people they were stuck on earth with.
Jesus reminded us that our love for people is what would set His followers apart from the people who don’t follow Jesus.
If you ask me, people could benefit a great deal from a little bit of love, way more than they could ever deal with wrath.
All we have we have to do is practice a little Stuck-itis. Sounds easier said than done, I know, but guess what!?
There are people around you that God has placed in your life who you can practice loving. Maybe it’s not snapping back at them when they make a comment to you. Maybe its not yelling at your kids… Whatever it might be, God will give you the grace to respond in a loving way. He’s the One who thought of it, so He probably knows how to help you.
Stuck-itis is a disease that I wouldn’t mind the world suffering from.
