i was at the post office the other day and i was talking with a fellow (one of the nice parts of my job, i get paid to visit with people!) anyway, he asked me if i had ever gone skiing, and i told him i had been once, but had a bad experinece with it, and i have never been back since.
Immediately i told him, "you know that's a lot like people and church, they have one bad experience and they never go back again." he told me that was intersting, and then the conversation changed to something different.
i think what i said that day is true. people have one bad experience at church and they never go back. but here's what i am wondering:, if we have a bad experience at walmart, do we go back? how about at your favorite restaurant? what about with your car? how about your political party? i know plenty of people that if their car burt, they wouldn't think anything of it to buy the same brand, or if their polititician burnt thier house down, they would still vote for that party, but why is it that we have one bad experience at church and we vow never to go back?
i get it that some people have truly been hurt by the church and that stinks. if that has been your experience, i am sorry, would you consider giving it another try?
that statement makes this next statement very hard for me to put in writing... i guess i will have to give skiing another try... much to my wife's pleasure
